If your parents have brothers and sisters, you have aunts and uncles, probably cousins too. Each of them will know their own part of the story of your parents and grandparents. They really are a part of your family and help tell its story. My sister and brother are some years older and they knew two great-grandparents who died before I was born or old enough to remember. They tell me stories of that earlier time and to whom various heirlooms belonged and where they were kept. I spent time with my parents after my siblings left home and know things they don't as well. For example, I was the only one who knew a certain set of jewelry was what my mother wore when she got married. As you trace your family to great-grandparents and further back remember to look at the whole family. You may find the daughter who got the family Bible or cousins with a photo album. A newspaper story about Uncle Bob may also tell about your Dad or grandparents. The more pieces of the family you gather together, the more complete will be the picture you have of your ancestors and their place in the world. In my first tip I mentioned using a pedigree or ancestral chart to see an outline of your heritage. That form is important, but it does not include the rest of their families. Team with it a family group sheet for each couple and you will have the beginning of your family history. You can download a free family group sheet (and other forms and charts) from RootsWeb at
Rootweb .
Enter a couple and all of their children on the sheet and any information you know about them. Fill in the rest of the spaces as you learn what goes there. Don't forget to record where you learned that date, place, or other tidbit. Digital scrapbooking will let you pull together any images you have of the family and produce a visual record too. I recently did a layout for a photo of my father and his sisters with kits by three Deco-Pages designers that might give you some ideas.

Jean M. One of my best friends started the club and, even though I had never skied, I was willing to give it a try. Mike and the older kids took intermediate lessons and Jacob (then 5) and I took beginner lessons. The instructor showed us how to stand and stop, toeing in and so on. I was very pleased with myself; I could actually do these things. Jacob refused to do anything that the instructor showed us and just tugged on my sleeve the entire lesson. About the time that we were going to learn how to use the chairlift and ski down the slope, Jacob pitched such a fit that we just dropped out of the rest of the lesson – I could figure out the rest of it myself, it was pretty easy really.
We went to the bunny hill and used this rope pull thing to reach the top of this slightly inclined mound (hardly a hill at all really). Every few feet I fell and had to figure out how to get up and try once again to go down until I fell, it was awful, I hadn't learned anything, I didn't know what I was doing at all! I hadn't had the important part of the lesson, how to ski! Because Jacob was lower to the ground he just had an easier time of staying up, so he made it down before me. With all of the falling on my part, Jacob got bored and left me sitting in the snow and to play tag with his sisters. After two slow, tottering trips down the bunny slope, I parked myself on a bench, stupefied by my complete lack of coordination and skill.
I watched the other skiers go by, they zipped and zagged with grace and coordination. Everyone that seemed to ‘get it' skied effortlessly down the hills. From the corner of my eye I spied the fasted person I had yet seen on the slopes, a birdlike creature that zoomed past me, … It was my 5 year old son, my fellow ski school dropout. His coat unzipped and arms straight out for balance; his coat flapped in the breeze like giant wings as he raced down the hill. I watched in horror as he effortlessly boarded the chairlift at the bottom. Without the lesson, without trying, he had learned to ski. No false-starts, no imbalance or humiliating bum-bumps. For him, he just ‘Got It!'
And I, of course, didn't. Today, he's a great skier and still a very fast skier. I did try again but still haven't felt comfortable beyond the bunny hill. Somehow I didn't get the coordination gene but the rest of my kids did. I sometimes tease Jacob saying if only I had finished that lesson I would be able to ski now. LOL, who knows, maybe?
Let me know about your winter sports memories, especially skiing. I'd love to see your LOs.
-------===================================================-------

Owner's Corner and Club News:

It's been a busy month around here, look for Deb's note next month.

Club News:

This month, the Club Deco Mega kit is going to provide you with so many sporty elements and papers to create wonderful pages for your scrapbooks.
